David Cay Johnston’s DCReport site crashes after posting Trump tax filing

DCReports after Johnston posted two pages of President Trump's 2005 tax documents.

People have been waiting for months and months to see President Trump’s tax documents, given that previous presidents have published their tax returns. Tonight reporter David Cay Johnston published two pages a form 1040 tax document from Trump on his website DCReport — and the site promptly went down.

Cloudflare kept an older version of the site online as Johnston spoke with Rachel Maddow live on MSNBC.

Maddow said Trump had more than $150 million in income and paid $38 million in taxes, with a $103 million write-down. The document Johnston obtained does not provide information about Trump’s income sources.

In a statement the White House told reporters that it’s “totally illegal to steal and publish tax returns.” Maddow said her show had First Amendment protection — and was not fake news.
